How do you change the fuel pump on a 98 Dodge Intrepid.?

I hate taking my car to the mechanic if I can do it myself. Does anyone know of any sites that have step by step instructions. Or is there anything that I should be conscious of before jumping into this. ThanksHow do you change the fuel pump on a 98 Dodge Intrepid.?not a bad job as long as the tank is low or empty. the pump is in the fuel tank. you need a $20.00 fuel line disconect set to take apart the fuel lines. also you will need to be able to get the car up about 2-3' in order to get the tank out.

1) disconnect battery

2) lift vehicle

3) loosen the filler neck and vent to tank

4) disconect wiring

5) 2 bolts hold the straps that hold the tank, loosen, but do not break them they alnmost never come out easy, lw or wd-40 helps alot

6) lower tank

7) where the fuel lines and wires are there is a round collar you remove

to get the pump and sending unit out

8) reverse the order and try starting, it can take a few seconds for the fuel pump to prime, but is done in 30 secs or less usuallyHow do you change the fuel pump on a 98 Dodge Intrepid.?when it comes to thing like gas.you have to be careful not to ignite it.for example a gas tank strap is so tight you may think of using heat from a torch to loosen it.that's a bad idea!!but i don't think that will be an issue.but you do need to drop the gas tank down and probably out of the car to change the fuel pump.as in its inside the gas tank .sometimes the fuel line requires special tools to remove the fuel lines from the sending unit so you can drop the tank.after that its not that bad to do.as long as you take your time and use common sense.just think safety and you will be fine.good luck.
